Andrew (Andy) Yonker passed away at Grace Davis Hall House in Ocala FL on June 7th, 2024. He was 85 years old. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Yonker and sister Mary Coniker. Andy is survived by his son John and his wife Maggie of Hurleyville NY, grandson John Jr., and granddaughters Madison and Johanna. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sally Yonker, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Andy was born in Ellenville NY on January 7th, 1939, in an ice storm to parents Edward and Agnes Yonker. He was raised on the family farm in Ulster Heights on land his family had worked for many years with two work horses and no tractors. Andy went to a one-room elementary school in Ulster Heights and went on to attend and graduate from Ellenville High School in 1956.
Andy served for years as a corrections officer at the state prison in Napanoch, and went on to manage the CETA program for the Town of Wawarsing, where he was proud to have helped more than 70 people find jobs. He did weekly payroll for all, without the help of computers. Andy was also a basketball official and was a referee at hundreds of high school games all over the area. He later joined the Town of Wawarsing Highway Dept. where he worked for many years until his retirement in 1994, when he moved to the Ocala FL area.
In his younger years, Andy enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing, the NY Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved a cold beer and a cigar.
Many thanks to Alecia, Daisy, Crystal and Dustin of Villages Rehab where he was made to feel safe and comfortable for many months.
