Arlene Anderman Hussey of Mountaindale, New York, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at Garnet Health Medical Center in Wallkill, New York. She was 87.
Arlene was born on May 19, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Sidney Landau and Ida Golub.
Arlene dedicated decades of her life to education, serving as a beloved teacher in the Fallsburg School System and as a member of the school board. She was a passionate advocate and guiding light for her students, changing and impacting the lives of hundreds of young people throughout her career. She was also a proud member of the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop.
Outgoing, vibrant, fun-loving, and friendly, Arlene brought joy and energy to all who knew her. She loved to dance, from the Lindy to Disco to the Hustle, and was always the first one on the dance floor. She especially loved hosting family and friends in her home, particularly during the holidays, creating cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those she loved. Arlene was also known for her determination and resourcefulness, constantly endeavoring to fix all things broken.
Arlene is survived by her sons, Wayne Anderman and his wife, Sheryl, Artie Hussey, and Bill Hussey; her daughter, Kathleen Smith; her sister, Lorraine Landau; and her niece, Dayna Kalmus. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay, Joshua, Terry, Billy, Kayly, Jessica, and Brian; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver, Eden, Macie, Juniper, Salvatore, Gianna, Brendan, and Olivia.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur J. Hussey; her daughter, Robynne Anderman Pacheco; and her granddaughter, Christine Smith.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, New York.
Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, former students, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life. Her vibrant spirit, generous heart, and love for others will never be forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
