Barbara L. Barkley, of Grahamsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Garnet Health Medical Center. She was born on December 31, 1936, in Tappan, New York, she was the daughter of the late Willard Amell and Flossie Taylor.

Barbara was a kind and giving woman who loved to volunteer with her church and the Grahamsville Ladies Auxiliary. She had a special fondness for animals-especially penguins, butterflies, and dragonflies. Barbara enjoyed playing cards with her friends, diamond painting, and traveling. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. A simple and loving soul, Barbara also had a lifelong love for Grahamsville.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Barbara and her husband, Earl, owned and operated Curry Diner before she went on to work as a secretary for the Denman Agency.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Barkley, and his wife Patty; her daughter, Mary Johnson, and her husband Robin; grandchildren Jonathan Franco, Brittney Johnson, Sean Barkley, and Ryan Barkley; her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Linda Barkley; as well as many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Barkley, her brother, Dwayne Amell, and her sister, Joan James.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara's name can be made to the Grahamsville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary or to the Grahamsville United Methodist Church.
