Billy Joe Padgett of Mountain Dale NY passed away on Nov. 5, 2022 at the age of 91.
Joe was born on July 5, 1931 to Oma and George Padgett.
He grew up in Chatanooga, TN and attended First Baptist Church throughout his childhood. Upon graduating high school Joe enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Mississippi. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he earned degrees in music and voice. After moving
to New York City Joe became a member of the St. Bartholomew church choir. He was employed by Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for over 25 years where he was highly regarded for his work as the Research Labs Grants and Budget manager. It was in NYC that Joe met his life partner of 56 years,
Arnold Finkelstein, who predeceased him in 2018. Together they enjoyed the opera, theater and international travel that took them to over 40 countries including China, India, Nepal and Peru. Joe and Arnold discovered Mt Dale and made the original Baxter farmhouse their home in retirement
where friends and neighbors were always welcome. They shared their lovely home with Duke, Max and ultimately Peppy, the dogs that gave them so much joy. Joe was a kind person who will be fondly remembered for his wit, southern charm, good looks and gentle spirit.
