Obituary

Brian Hayes, a devoted husband, accomplished artist, and proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away on October 17, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1946, to John and Ada Hayes. He will be remembered for his remarkable artistic talent, his dedication to his work, his service to his country, and the deep love he shared with his beloved wife, Isabelle.

Brian's artistic talents were evident from an early age. While still in high school, he distinguished himself as a protégé of renowned artist Bob Longo, painting backdrops for school productions and beginning what would become a lifelong devotion to the arts. Although he went on to earn a master's degree in Computer Science and pursue a career with IBM, his passion for creativity never faded. He eventually returned to the world of art, serving as Director of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Throughout his life, Brian continued to paint and sculpt, finding particular joy in creating angels for holiday decorations. His artistic spirit was an enduring part of who he was, and his creativity brought beauty to the lives of those around him.

Brian also proudly served in the United States Army, with service in Germany and Vietnam. For his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star, an honor that reflected his dedication and sacrifice.

Above all else, Brian's happiest moments were those spent with Isabelle, his beloved wife and inseparable companion. Their life together was filled with shared adventures and simple pleasures, from traveling to France and attending the opera in New York City to working side by side and tending their garden. Brian, often wearing his beloved French beret, could frequently be seen driving to work alongside Isabelle, with their cherished canine companion, Chum, in tow. Their partnership was one of deep affection, companionship, and a shared appreciation for the life they built together.

Brian was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Isabelle, whose memory remained an enduring part of his life.

He is survived by his siblings, John (Jack) Hayes, Ada E. Cole, and Daniel M. Hayes; his nieces and nephews, Devon, Ian, and Colin Hayes; Bill Cole (Jackie); Colleen Gudehus (Scott); Peyton and Garrett Gudehus; and Dana Delfino (Louis), Rider, and Chase Delfino. He is also survived by Isabelle's children, Laurel, Paul, and Matthew, as well as extended family members and dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Eddie and June Brown for their genuine care, kindness, and all they have done for Brian. Their compassion and generosity have meant more than words can express, and the family extends their heartfelt thanks. They would also like to extend thanks to Anthony, Karen, and Taylor at the Colonial Family of Funeral Homes for all their assistance and compassion during this time.

A graveside memorial service with full military honors for Brian will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 1:30pm at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery.

Brian leaves behind a legacy of artistic expression, honorable service, and enduring love. He will be remembered with affection by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on through the beauty he created, the relationships he treasured, and the memories he leaves behind.

We all love you, Brother Bri.
