Carol Jane Lounsbery, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at The Care Center at Sunset Lake in Liberty, NY. She was 91.
Born on December 23, 1933, in San Francisco, California, she was the daughter of the late Jephtha Briggs and Adeline Conn.
Carol’s professional life was dedicated to her working at the same bank, originally First National Bank of Ellenville, then Norstar Bank and lastly Bank of America, where she served as a Bank Teller. She also made significant contributions to her community, being an active member of the Shawangunk Gardening Club, the Ellenville Hospital Auxiliary, and served as the Past President of the Ellenville Lioness Club. A committed volunteer, she was known for her work doing the bookkeeping for the Ellenville Library.
Carol had many passions, including being an avid reader, crocheting, quilting, and enjoying the occasional round of golf. She loved good food, attending Broadway shows, and was always known to make friends wherever she went. Carol also had a special place in her heart for her cats, and she played an active role in the July 4th committee, helping organize the community floats.
Carol was known for her directness and honesty, always telling it like it was. She leaves behind her children, Tom Dwyer and his wife Susie from Michigan, Donna Dwyer from Oneonta, Cynthia VanValkenburg and her husband Karl of Grahamsville, and Jim Lounsbery and his wife Della of Middletown, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Wayne, Sean, Jake, Bobbie, John, Matt, Katy and Libby. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood James Lounsbery, her granddaughter, Catherine Harth, and her companion, Herman Lowinger.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Assembly of God Church 67 Canal Street, Ellenville, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
