David "Dave" L. Rose, of Napanoch, NY, passed away on May 3, 2026 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 71 years old.

Dave was born to Richard "Sonny" Rose and Sally (Botsford) Rose on April 23, 1955 in Ellenville, NY. He attended Ellenville High School where he met the love of his life, his "high school sweetheart," Sandra "Sandy" Schoonmaker. Dave joined the Navy soon thereafter, serving his country for two years stateside in Connecticut and California. Dave and Sandy married in 1974 and soon welcomed their only and beloved daughter, Kristina Lynn.

Dave was a hardworking, self-taught, skilled carpenter who established and maintained his own successful construction business for many years. In 1999, Dave took a position in the maintenance department but retired a few years later after sustaining an injury. Not one to be easily deterred, there was nothing Dave could not build, and he enjoyed this lifelong career, even in spite of illness, just up until the summer of 2025 when he put a beautiful brand-new deck on a home. Dave was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting, especially deer and bear. He could often be found at his Hunting Camp, watching a Giants game, or jamming to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, his favorite band. He was skilled with the bow, rifle, and muzzle loader, and delighted in teaching his nephews how to hunt. His nephews were his pride and joy. He also enjoyed fishing in the Catskill waters running throughout the mountains in which he was raised and lived. He also loved camping and boating and riding his Spyder bike, taking long trips on the bike with Sandy as far as Ohio and the Carolinas. Most of all, Dave loved his family, especially his wife, Sandy and cherished daughter, Kristina and his siblings and extended family.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Sallie Rose, his brother, Richard Rose, and his sister-in-law, Karen Rose. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Rose; his daughter, Kristina L. Rose Lewis and granddaughter, Alyssa Lewis; his siblings, Hope Kortright, Karen Andrews, Earl Rose, Tina Connolly, Keith Rose, and Lori Ortiz; his brothers and sisters in law, and beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2-5 pm, at Unity Hall, Berme Road, Napanoch, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinsons.org or American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
