Doris M. Gerow, a longtime area resident, passed away at her residence in Mongaup Valley on Sunday February 23, 2014. She was 86. She was born on July 22, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pa to the late Larry and Grace Stanton Hyland. Doris had worked as a file clerk for Frontier Insurance Co. in Rock Hill, NY.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John S. Gerow, at home; children, John S. Gerow Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, Kenneth Gerow and wife Lisa of Troy, NY, Brian Gerow and companion Debbie Fischer of Mongaup Valley and Dorothy Keesler and husband Gary Pavlick of Ballston Spa, NY; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and cousins, Harry (Sonny) McDowell and wife Marge and Richard (Butch) McDowall and wife Sandy, all of Philadelphia, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jodi Marie Gerow.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY and a memorial service will take place on April 27, 2014 at 2 PM at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, NY. Rev. David Coon will officiate.
