Elaine Irene VanDermark, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Westchester Medical Center. She was 78.

Born on November 17, 1947, in Livingston Manor, New York, she was the daughter of the late George Russell VanDermark and Mildred Elizabeth VanDermark.

Elaine dedicated many years of her professional life as a legal secretary at Cook and Davis Law Office from 1986 until her retirement in 2017. Prior to that, she worked in the Social Services Department of Sullivan County, where she formed a lifelong friendship of over 60 years with her dear friend, Karen Tolcz "Aunt Karen". She also served as a secretary for the White Lake Fire Department.

Elaine had a heart of gold and was known for her kindness and generosity. She faithfully supported causes close to her heart, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and CARE Animal Shelter in Ferndale. Her love for her faith was unwavering, and she was a devoted member of Bethel Bible Ministries, where she actively participated and gave back to her church community, including sponsoring families during the Christmas season and contributing to Operation Christmas Child.

In her younger years, Elaine was very involved in her community, serving as a PTA member, Girl Scout leader, and Brownie leader. She loved spending time outdoors, especially gardening, and enjoyed traveling to Vermont and the Poconos. Elaine cherished simple joys-country crafts, holiday celebrations, and her nightly bowl of ice cream. Friday night card games with her family were among her most treasured moments.

She had a wonderful sense of humor, was easy to talk to, and was known for her forgiving nature and wise advice. She especially enjoyed watching scary movies with her son Eric and spending time with her loved ones.

Elaine is survived by her loving children, Linda Lee Bederman "Lucy"; George Russell VanDermark II; and Eric Dennis VanDermark. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jasmine Elaine VanDermark and Summer Rose Bederman; her siblings, Kathy Kimble and Keith VanDermark and his wife Evelyn; her sister-in-law, Barbara VanDermark; as well as extended family and a host of dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Bible Ministries,1972 NY-17B Bethel, NY . A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
