Ellan’s life was deeply rooted in love and family. For 27 years, she shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Richard Edwards Sr., building a home filled with warmth and cherished memories. Together they raised six children; Ashley Edwards (David), Richard Edwards, Patrick Edwards (Ashley), Alicia Edwards (Cody), Nathan Edwards (Jill), and the late Richard Edwards Jr., whose memory remained close to Ellan’s heart.
Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, David III, Yvone, King, Allison, Nikko, Anisa - who brought light and laughter into her days. Ellan treasured every moment spent with them, especially singing and dancing together, or simply enjoying time in front of the television. Her love for reminiscing with her children about the old times reflected her deep appreciation for family bonds and shared history.
Ellan was one of many siblings in a large and loving family. She is survived by Edwin Schrader; Sam Schrader (Bonnie); Pamela Schrader; Elizabeth Cohen (Robert); Morris Schrader (Christine); Angela Detzauer; Jennifer Detzauer (Carmen); Merritt Detzauer Jr. (Mariella); Joseph Detzauer; Samantha DeGroat; Amanda Detzauer; and David Detzauer. Her father Merritt Detzauer Sr. also survives her.
She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Lena Hazel Schrader; Siblings, Christina DeGroat, Russell Detzauer, and Julia Detzauer; and her son Richard Edwards Jr..
In addition to her immediate family, Ellan leaves behind an abundance of nieces and nephews who were also touched by her presence. Among those closest to her was Mariella Detzauer – her lifelong friend who was more like a sister – whose bond with Ellan stood as a testament to enduring friendship.
Ellan’s legacy lives on through countless memories she created with those she loved. Her laughter during dance sessions with grandchildren, heartfelt conversations with her children about days gone by, and unwavering companionship with her husband will be remembered always.
