Emily Hodge

June 7, 1926 — November 7, 2025

Emily I. Hodge, 99, of Livingston Manor, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Frank Bury and Ila Bury (Skinner), born on June 7, 1926, in Fremont Center, New York.

Emily worked in an arms plant in New Jersey, supporting the WW2 effort. She later married Melvin T. Hodge, and together they built a life centered around family, love, and community. Emily was a devoted wife, mother, and caretaker-she looked after many children throughout her life, whether they were her own or her neighbors'.

She worked various jobs over the years, but her greatest devotion was caring for her home and family. Emily loved traveling the countryside, was a wonderful cook, and her children could always count on there being cookies in the house. One of her most cherished recipes was her famous rice pudding, which she often brought to share with friends.

Emily was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of both the Livingston Manor Methodist Church and the Fremont Center Church, and also a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Duane "Skip" Hodge and his wife Peggy, and Elaine McKay; her grandchildren, Robert Smith, Amy Lippencott and her husband Tod, and Kelsey Blake and her husband Tom; and her great-grandchildren, Kristen E. Smith, Tyler Lippencott, and Jack Lippencott. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, Emily was loving, caring, and understanding. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Emily was predeceased by her beloved husband, Melvin Hodge, and her siblings, Fred, George, Frank, Helen, and Irma.
