Ethel Louise Gabrielsen

Liberty, NY

Ethel Louise (Davis) Gabrielsen, 77, passed peacefully on October 22, 2014 at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown, NY, following a long illness.

A lifelong resident of the Catskills, Ethel was born in Swan Lake, NY on February 27, 1937 to the late Chester and Isabell (King) Davis. Ethel attended Liberty High School where she played the cello and served on the Snowball Patrol. Following graduation, she attended Orange County Community College.

She married Richard (Wimpy) Gabrielsen of Liberty, NY on February 12, 1960, and was a devoted wife and mother to their three children, Eric, Christine, and Dana. After raising her children, she worked as a teacher's aide at Sullivan County BOCES - she relished this job. Ethel was a woman of unusual poise and temperament; she demonstrated a demure nature that was perfectly suited to helping others. Her extraordinary baking and cooking skills enabled her to produce food for her family that looked exactly like the picture. She also taught her children to find comfort in a good book. She was an absolute joy to be around and the world will be much poorer with her passing.

Ethel is survived by her children, Eric Gabrielsen and his wife, Michelle, of Rockport, Maine, Christine Gabrielsen of Jamestown, NY and Dana Gabrielsen of Liberty, NY; her grandchild, Thor Gabrielsen of Rockport, Maine; three brothers, Chester Davis Jr. and his wife, Anita, William Davis and his wife, Grace and Richard Davis and his wife, Evelyn, all of Swan Lake, NY; sisters-in-law, Ann (Green) Gabrielson of Liberty, NY, and Agnes (Gabrielsen) Clark of Malta, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard, and by her siblings, Rev.Kenneth Davis and Lois Davis.

The Gabrielsen family would like to thank the Lutheran Home in Jamestown, NY for the incredible care that she received during her stay. Donations may be made to Chautauqua County Hospice at 20 Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood NY 14750.

Friends may call on Saturday November 1, 2014 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty, NY. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs, NY.
