Evelyn Anna DeMyer was born on January 27, 1932, at home in Calicoon, NY to her parents Clarence and Anna Cook. On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, she died gently and peacefully at the age of 93.
Evelyn married George Keeler and together they raised four children in Youngsville, NY. Evelyn is predeceased by their daughter Terry Keeler, daughter Bonnie O’Neill, and their son Randy Keeler. In 1970 Evelyn married Wilson DeMyer, her husband of 51 years. They made their home in Grahamsville, NY and raised their daughter, Tanya McLean, before moving to Saratoga Springs.
Evelyn was much loved by her family. She is survived by her daughter Tanya DeMyer McLean, her husband, Jim McLean, and her granddaughters Sadie and Sydney of Arlington, MA; her daughter Kelly Thimineur and her husband Dean Thimineur of Mechanicville, NY; her granddaughter Jenny Thimineur and her great-grandchildren Alyssa and Gregory; her grandson Phineas Graham and his wife, Elyse Graham, of Clifton Park, NY; her grandson Tyler Graham of Glenville, NY; her grandson John Gasko of Miami, FL; daughter-in-law Laura Gasko and her great-grandchildren Aviel and Maya of Dallas, TX; her son-in-law George O’Neill of Schenectady, NY (husband to her late daughter, Bonnie O’Neill); her grandson Brendan Slater, her great-grandchildren Anneke and Winston; her granddaughter Courtney Radosti, her grandchildren Gavin and Peyton, and her grandson Ryland Cougear. Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved sister, Lorraine Muller.
Evelyn was passionate about caring for others. She completed her nursing degree at SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY and worked as a Registered Nurse at Maimonides Hospital in Liberty, NY. Later in life, she earned her teaching degree at SUNY Oneota. She went on to become a School Nurse and Teacher at White Sulfur Springs School and Liberty High School. Evelyn was committed to her students and brought her creativity and talent for planning events to her work. For decades she treasured a plaque beside her bed that read: “In 100 years it will not matter what my bank account was, or the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 12-1:00pm. A graveside service will be held at Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:30pm. Flower arrangements in Evelyn’s honor are greatly appreciated.
