George Decker

July 1, 1941 — January 4, 2026

George Decker passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 4, 2026.

George was born on July 1, 1941, in Staten Island, New York, to the late Helen Schlaefer and William Decker. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for hands-on craftsmanship-qualities that would define his life.

A dedicated and hardworking man, George owned and operated Decker Contractors Inc. in Swan Lake, NY. He was widely known and respected for his skill, precision, and vast knowledge of machinery and automobiles. There was little George couldn't fix, and he took great pride in solving problems with his hands. In addition to his professional work, George was a proud volunteer firefighter with the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department, faithfully serving and protecting his community for many years.

Though serious in nature, George possessed a quiet, dry sense of humor that revealed itself at just the right moments. He enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Florida with his beloved wife, Carol, and camping adventures in his motorhome. George developed a lifelong love of horses during his childhood in Staten Island, a passion that remained close to his heart. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a deep appreciation for old cars, machinery, and mechanical restoration.

George is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Decker; his daughters, Alice Decker Monaco and Susan Pugliese and her husband, Paul; his son, Eric Decker and his wife, Stacy; five cherished grandchildren, Evangeline, Gabrielle, Jamie, George lll, and Eric Jr.; along with three great-grandchildren, Declan, Lilia, and Sofia, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy in his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, George Decker Jr., as well as his sisters, Anita Decker and Lois Pedalino and brothers, William Decker Jr. and Richard Decker Sr.

The family extends a heartfelt and sincere thank you to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, and to all the nurses and caregivers who provided compassionate and devoted care throughout this journey-especially his nurses, Kelly Kopp and Lauren Williams, whose kindness and support will never be forgotten.

George's legacy lives on through his family, his work, and the many lives he touched. He will be remembered always and missed more than words can express.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Boys Town, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
