Harold F. Van Aken, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Sunday March 22, 2015 at Valley View Center in Goshen, NY. He was the son of the late Floyd and Leora Lewis Van Aken and was born on July 31, 1923 in Red Hill, NY.
Harold was Supervisor for the Town of Denning for 29 years. He was a member of the Harness Owners Assn, a lifetime member and Past President of the Claryville Fire Dept. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Woodbourne, NY.
He was the beloved husband of Doris Hoberg Van Aken to whom he was married for 69 years in love and friendship, who survives at home. He was the loving father of Diana Curry and her husband Donald of Harpursville, NY, both of whom he appreciated for all their special care and Karen Van Aken of Vestal, NY, who spent countless times together, sharing their love of horses. He is also survived by his grandson, Scott Curry, with whom he shared a special bond, and his wife Colleen.
Visiting hours are on Thursday, March 26 from 5 to 8 PM at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St. Liberty, NY. Claryville Fire Dept. will hold services at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Harold's Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 27 at 11:45 AM at St. Peter's Church, 264 N. Main St. Liberty. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY. Burial of Harold's cremains will take place at a later date..
