Herbert D. Rogers

Liberty, NY

Herbert Dallas Rogers, 68, of Liberty, NY, passed in his sleep at home under the loving care of his devoted partner, Elizabeth Whitehead on Thursday August 7, 2014. He was the son of Niles and Lena May Conklin Rogers and was born on April 11, 1946 in Livingston Manor, NY.

A hardworking man and loyal friend, Herby wore many hats throughout his life. He joined the Navy at 17 and served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969. Herby made a long career as a heavy equipment operator and then as a driver for Sullivan County Office of the Aging. Never one to pass up the opportunity to teach himself a new skill, he welded, repaired vehicles and became a master carpenter who created beautiful furniture and clocks for friends and family. He enjoyed his retirement by coin collecting. Herby's corny sense of humor and quick wit endeared him to all who knew him and he will be missed.

He is survived by his mother, Lena May Rogers; his partner of 16 years, Elizabeth Whitehead at home; sons, David Rogers of Hancock, NY and Andrew Rogers of Latham, NY; daughter, Karen Rogers of Grahamsville, NY and her companion Rip Connor; brother, Dennis Rogers of Liberty, NY; sisters, Ginger Atkins and her companion Don Nichols of Parksville, NY and Alice Donovan of Ocoee, FL, several nieces and nephews and many, many close cousins.

Betty and Karen would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties for their support in helping to care for Herby at home.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, August 12 at 1:30 PM at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Rd. Liberty, NY.
