Howard Leigh
Conklin
Jan 18, 1952 — Oct 18, 2026
Howard Leigh Conklin, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 18, 1952, in the Bronx, New York, Howard was the son of the late William Conklin and Thelma Kimble. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before continuing his career with the Fallsburg Highway Department, where he served as Superintendent until his retirement.
On his 50th birthday, Howard awoke with Bell's palsy, and he later learned that he had Parkinson's disease. Despite the challenges that came with his diagnosis, Howard was determined to continue doing the things he loved for as long as he could. Through the years, he faced his illness with strength and determination, enduring numerous medications and treatments while making the most of each day.
In recent weeks, however, his battle became more difficult, and there was little more the doctors could do. On Sunday morning, Howard lost his battle, leaving behind a family who loved him dearly.
As his family remembers him, they can find comfort in imagining Howard walking freely once again, enjoying all the candy he could ever want, reminiscing with those he had lost before him, and finally living without pain.
Howie leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Nancy Conklin; his daughter, Chrissy, and her husband, Ronald; his son, Jason Conklin, wife, Amy; and their two children his cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Austin, and Ronald Klein. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, New York, with full military honors.
Howie would always say "Now I lay me down to sleep, I parked my race car across the street If it rolls before I wake, I pray Lord you hit the brake.
