Obituary

James K. Richardson, 83, passed away on March 16, 2026, at Westchester Medical Center. Born on February 15, 1943, in Liberty, New York, he was the son of the late James H. Becker and Catherine Dulaff.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army, a service he carried with great pride throughout his life. His love for his country remained strong in his heart and everyday life. He was a longtime and active member of several veterans' organizations including the VFW, the VVA, and the DAV. For many years, he served as the County Commander of the DAV. A few years ago, he was honored to participate in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight, traveling from Stewart Airport to Washington, D.C., and back-an experience he cherished, especially as he was able to share it with his son. He was also a proud member of the Purple Heart.

James worked as a milk pasteurizing plant manager for Eastern Correctional Facility, a bus driver for Freddie Ahrens, and a custodian for Tri-Valley Central School. Outside of work, he was deeply involved in many hobbies and organizations. He was a member of the Neversink-Roundout Antique Machinery Association, the Catskill Exotic Bird Club, the Beaver Dam Hunting Club, and the Wawarsing Rod and Gun Club. A true outdoorsman, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature.

He had a love for animals, especially birds, and spent many years raising pigeons and chickens. He also enjoyed attending gun shows and military shows, collecting firearms, and participating in Civil War reenactments as a member of the Catskill Bushwackers. Some of his favorite moments were the simple ones-family game nights and sitting by the pond feeding the fish.

James loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Theresa Richardson; his son, Kenneth Richardson and his wife Michelle; his siblings, Larry Richardson and his wife Peggy, Tom Richardson, and Sally Richardson and her companion Steve; his dear friend, Tom Wright; his cousin, Eleanor Aherns; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Harriet Wilkins.

Interment will take place on Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Donations in Jim's name can be made to either the DAV, Wounded Warrior Project, or Grahamsville Volunteer Fire Department.
