Janis Garrett, a longtime resident of Monticello, NY, passed away on Monday May 23, 2016 at Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty, NY. She was 63. The daughter of the late Neal and Lenora Jordan, she was born on July 23, 1952 in Matawan, NJ.
Janis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello and was a substitute teacher for Liberty Central Schools.
Survivors include sons, Melvin (Stacey) Garrett of Newark, NJ, Marc Garrett and his fiancé Sha'maell Shabazz of Bethlehem, PA and Daryl Garrett (Alisha) of Sacramento, CA; daughter, Nijsha Garrett and her fiancé Floyd Dantzler of Liberty, NY; brothers, Marvin Gumbs (Diane) of Keyport, NJ, Larry Gumbs (Yodai) of Sacramento, CA, and Christopher Gumbs (Wanda) of Greensboro, SC; sisters, Iris Garrett Haywood (Herbert) of Greensboro, SC and Yuanita Brown (John) of Trenton, NJ; seven grandchildren, Melvin, Jihaad, Solomon, Jackie, Lanijsha, Briana, and Zalae and five great-grandchildren, Dwayne, Cameron, K'shawn, Angel and Chelsea.
Friends may call on Saturday June 4, 2016 from 10 AM to Noon at the First Baptist Church, Liberty St. Monticello, NY. Funeral Services will be at the church at Noon with Rev, James L. Matthews officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Rd. Liberty, NY.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ramsay's Funeral Homes Inc. Monticello, NY.
