Joan Marie Marshall, lovingly known as the “Lady of the Lake,” passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 70. A devoted mother, loyal friend, and lifelong horse trainer, Joan touched the lives of many with her generous spirit, unwavering love, and deep connection to the natural world.
Born on October 3, 1954, in Liberty, NY, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Robert F. Allison and Bernice R. Allison. She was raised in Albany, NY, and graduated from Guilderland High School before settling in White Lake, NY where she would spend most of her life and build a home filled with love, laughter, and lakefront memories.
Joan shared a remarkable life and career with her late husband, David Joseph Marshall. Together, they trained and raced harness horses throughout the Northeast, forming a powerful and enduring partnership rooted in trust, hard work, and a shared passion for the sport.
She is survived by her son, Troy David Marshall, whom she cherished deeply and to whom she devoted her life. Joan also leaves behind her brother Robert Maurice Allison and his partner, Geraldine Johnston, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her siblings Patricia Louise Bielby-Chase, John Dale Allison, and Richard “Rick” Leroy Allison.
Joan’s warmth, loyalty, and vibrant spirit made her a beloved member of her community and a friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered most as a loving mother, a steady presence, and a woman who lived with grace and grit.
May she rest peacefully, surrounded by still waters and everlasting light.
