Joel Arthur Murns Middletown passed away on December 11th, 2025. He was 73.

Joel was born in Monticello NY August 18th, 1952, and was a Truck driver by trade. He was predeceased by his father Arthur Murns and mother Mignonne Murns, brothers Howard Murns, Bill Murns, Richard Murns and Edgar Murns. Joel is survived by his wife Linda Murns, daughters Kimberly Reed, Bernadette Miller and his son Joel William Murns. Joel was also the grandfather of Rebecca Tonic, Thomas Reed, Alyssa Reed, Skye DeMasi, Christopher A. Sugrim-Miller, Emma Miller, Joshua Eddy, Adrianna Eddy, Rachel Eddy, Carrigan Murns, Fiona Murns, and Joel Richard Murns. He also leaves behind his siblings Eugene Murns, Raymond Murns, Janette Ross and Darlene Cagle and several nieces and nephews.

At one time Joel was the Director of the Drum and bugle Corp out of Liberty NY which he was very fond of. Joel served his country proudly in the United States army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Joel absolutely loved the sport of Auto racing and was a long-time employee at the Orange County Fair Speedway for over 30 yrs. He started off as a runner, Interned as a flagger with the famous Tex Enright. He would eventually become the Head chief of the Street stock division. He would moonlight from time to time as a flagger at Orange County Fair Speedway, Accord Speedway and finished his career at the Bethel Motor Speedway as a flagger. Joel at one time under the DIRT Motorsports banner was the racing director for the Orange County Fair Speedway and also followed the pro stock tour as an official for the Northeast Mr. Dirt Car pro stock tour. Joel would always be the first to congratulate a first-time winner in his beloved Street Stock division. Joel was inducted into the Hudson Valley Race Car Historical Racing Hall of Fame. There was no racetrack in the northeast that he was not known at. Joel was once quoted saying I have no regrets it's been a hell of a ride. 

Visitation will be on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Colonial Ramsay Funeral Home, 3534 State Route 55 Kauneonga Lake, NY 12749 from 5:30-8:00pm. A graveside service will be held at VanKeuren Cemetery on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 10:30am.
