John W. Ackerley

It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of John W. Ackerley, after a long illness. John passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.

John was born June 8, 1958, in Liberty, NY, to Elwood “Duke” Ackerley and Catherine “Kitty” Higgins.

John was a life member of the Catskill Old Bastards #583, and the Liberty Elks #1545.

He was predeceased by his mother, father and one sister, as well as one brother.

John is survived by his wife Penny at home; his 3 sons, Adam (Kim), John (Ingrid), and Gregory; 2 daughters, Kristy-Lynne and Amber (Kyle); 4 brothers, Walter (Tracy), Robert, David Graham (Shannon), Keith McArthur (Melanie); and one sister, Judy Baisley (John); as well as 12 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several close endeared friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY. A service conducted by the Liberty Elks #1545 will begin at 7:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment at St. Peters Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Liberty, NY, will follow the service. Pastor Seth Switzer is officiating.
