John
Bowers
April 6, 1935 – April 4, 2026
John M. Bowers, 90, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2026, just two days shy of his 91st birthday. Born on April 6, 1935, John lived a long and meaningful life rooted in hard work, family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
John was raised on a farm, where he developed a lifelong love of nature and a strong work ethic that carried him throughout his life. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, but he was happiest spending time outdoors gardening, tending to his lawn, or simply enjoying the beauty of the land around him. A devoted fan of country music, John found joy in its stories and melodies.
Known for his remarkable skill and ingenuity, John could fix nearly anything. He spent countless hours repairing and rebuilding tractors and took great pride in building the family home with his own hands-a lasting testament to his dedication and craftsmanship.
John was a proud and devoted member of the Loch Sheldrake Fire Company, serving his community for over 50 years as a life member. He also dedicated more than 24 years to the Sullivan County Highway Association and later retired from E. Tets & Sons at the age of 70, where he formed lasting friendships and was regarded as part of their extended family.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Doris Bowers; his children, Dale Bowers, Sue-Ellen "Susie" Osterhout (Earl), and Patricia "Patti" Bonnell (Sean); his cherished grandchildren, Brittney Siegel (Hunter), Hope Monforte (John), and Wade Bonnell; his great grandchildren, Leah Siegel and Johnny Monforte; and his sisters, Mary Lou Mears and Rose Ann Knox; his sister-in-law, Geraldine Bowers.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Jo-Ann Bowers; his brothers, Fred "Bucky" Bowers, William Bowers, and James Bowers; his sisters, Kathleen Hartling and her husband Richard, and Joan Magie; his son-in-law, Scott Bonnell; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Bowers.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the values he instilled in those who knew and loved him.
The family asks that donations be made in John's name to St. Jude Children's Research Foundation in his memory.
