John David Brewer of Liberty, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2025. He was the son of John Brewer and Dorothy Starkweather, born on September 21, 1945, in Sidney, New York.
For many years, John worked as a well pump mechanic at Wood's Repair in Liberty, where he took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication-he never missed a day. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
He loved the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing during the winter months. In his younger years, he enjoyed stock car racing at the White Lake Raceway, where number 39 was his favorite. John also liked bowling and playing horseshoes with friends and family. He was a straightforward and honest man-if he liked you, you knew it, and if he didn't, you knew that too. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love for his family.
John is survived by his daughter, Stacy Balbirer and her husband Ira; his son, Joe Brewer; his grandchildren, Kaelyn, Ryan, Kristyn, and Joe Jr.; his siblings, Gerry and his wife Debbie, Ronald and his wife Judy, Vicky, and Cindy and her husband Albert; his dear friend, Lyman Wood; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother Jimmy, his sister Donna, his father-in-law and hunting and fishing partner Harry Stephenson-someone he truly enjoyed spending time with-and his dear friend Lee Cogswell.
