Joseph John Reda, a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 95. Born in the Bronx on January 2, 1931 to Joseph Reda and Anna Kehr, he lived a full life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family.

From early childhood, Joe spent summers at his grandparent's house in Lew Beach fostering a lifelong connection to the area where it would become a second home for him and his family. Joe was a charter member of the Beaverkill Valley Fire Department where he worked alongside his late brother, Clifford.

Joe proudly served in the United States Navy in the Korean War as a Machinist's Mate on the USS Mullany. He loved to tell stories of his time in the Navy, having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. In recent years he would get choked up every time someone thanked him for his service. To Joe, it was an honor to have served his country.

Upon leaving the Navy, Joe began his civilian life at the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) in New York City where he met his wife Rita. He retired from WNET13 as Head of Accounting Operations and moved permanently to Lew Beach.

Joe was passionate about the outdoors and especially hunting, a tradition he looked forward to each year. He enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, the time he got to spend with family and friends and of course the stories that came with each outing.

Joe shared 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, the late Rita. He was a devoted and caring father to children Joseph, Helene, Rita, and Gary. He cherished his grandchildren Matthew and Melissa and great grandchildren Sloane and Cameron Joseph.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to a Veterans Organization of your choice.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 3-7:00pm at Colonial Bryant Funeral Home, 28 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY. A funeral service wil be at the funeral home on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 1:00pm with Father Bader officiating. Interment will follow at Lew Beach Cemetery with full military honors.
