JuneAnn Dorothy Koester, a beloved mother, grandmother, and longtime member of the community, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on June 18, 1935, in Astoria, Queens, to Helen Mathias Herfurth and George Herfurth, June spent the last 60 years of her life in Jeffersonville, NY, where she built a life rooted in love, service, and faith.
A devoted wife to her late husband, Frank E. Koester—whom she joins in eternal rest after his passing in 1995—June was the heart of her family and home. Together, they raised four children: Jacqueline (Koester) Decker, Frank Koester, Christopher Koester, and Theresa (Koester) Flynn. As a homemaker, June poured her energy, warmth, and unwavering care into nurturing her family, creating a loving home filled with laughter, kindness, and strong values.
Beyond her role in the home, June was involved in her community and church. A faithful member of St. George's Church, she served as a Eucharistic minister and dedicated 18 years to teaching Sunday School, guiding young hearts with compassion and grace. She also volunteered at the local library and the Hurleyville museum, where her love for learning and local history touched many.
June's legacy lives on through her four children, her cherished grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. (Devin Rosenthal, Amanda White, Samantha Light, Theresa Light, Lindsey Neff, Brendan Flynn, and Grace Flynn, Lily Rosenthal, Sadie Neff, and Lila Neff). Along with several Great Granddaughters, all of whom carry her spirit of quiet strength, love of family, and unwavering faith.
Her life was a testament to the power of love, strong faith, and simple joys. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18th at St. Georges Church, 97 Schoolhouse Road, Jeffersonville, NY at 11:00AM.
