Kenneth "Cowboy" Keener, 63, of Woodridge, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2025. Born May 24, 1962, in Ellenville, NY, he was the beloved son of the late Herbert T. Keener and Nancy Crain.
Cowboy lived life on his own terms, following his passion for horses from a young age and turning it into a lifelong career. Known for his grit, warmth, and cowboy spirit, he worked for many years as a wrangler at several beloved establishments in the region, including Hadley Stables, Catskill Game Farm, Villa Roma, and Pine Grove Ranch, among others. Whether he was leading trail rides or tending to the horses he loved, Cowboy brought joy to countless families and visitors over the years.
Beyond the saddle, Cowboy had a deep love for riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was always proud of his connection to the spirit of Woodstock. His free soul, love of the open road, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
He leaves behind his children Samantha, Jennifer, Kristina, and Ariel; and his cherished grandchildren Ethan, Hunter, Beau, Blaze, Damien, Daxton, and Bella Star. He is also survived by his siblings Timmy, Tommy, Rosemary, Robin, Scott, Kevin, and Brian; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.
Cowboy is predeceased by his mother Nancy Crain, his father Herbert Keener, his stepmother Laura Keener, his brother Lee, and his granddaughter Charlie.
His legacy of love, laughter, and cowboy wisdom will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
