Larry J. Houman

March 10, 1950 — May 30, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Houman, Sr., who left us peacefully on May 30, 2025. Born on March 10, 1950, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Larry lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Larry was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud Navy veteran, and a man of many trades. He served as a New York State Correction Officer and went on to become a successful owner and operator of several small businesses. Through it all, he remained a steadfast friend to many, known for his reliability, generosity, and warm-hearted nature.

A man of great spirit and a lover of peace, Larry kept the spirit of Woodstock alive in his beloved shop on Dr. Duggan Road, where he sold Woodstock memorabilia and welcomed visitors from around the world. He was a gifted storyteller with an infectious sense of humor, always ready to share a laugh or a memory with anyone who walked through his door.

Larry is survived by his loving children: Candy Sarna and her husband Puneet, Cynthia Edmonds and her husband Farnell, Larry Houman Jr., and Carolynn Grossman and her husband Richard. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Michael Sheldon, Giya Sarna, Christina Devlin, Danielle Mann, John Isaacs, Sara Edmonds, Elizabeth Edmonds, Ian Edmonds, Charolette Edmonds, Christopher Colton, Jayson Colton, and Caitlyn Grossman, as well as four cherished great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his beloved mother, Cellie Hendrix Houman; his brother, Michael Houman; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Larry was predeceased by his dear wife, Carol Houman; his father, Jacob Julius Houman; and his sister, Glenda McIntosh.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 28, at the Lake Superior Park’s Beach Pavilion in Bethel, NY from 11-2 pm in remembrance of Larry. In the case of inclement weather, we will gather at the Bethel Senior Center on Route 55 in Kauneonga Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the American Cancer Society in honor of Larry and Carol Houman, or to The Lighthouse for the Blind in honor of Larry Houman Jr.

Larry’s presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in peace and may the light he brought into the lives of others continue to shine. Services were handled privately and under the care of Colonial Ramsay Funeral Home.
