Laura was born on May 11,1961 to Kathleen(Toomey) and Terrance Moriarty in Queens, NY. Her family moved to Monticello when she was young.
She married Francis Jones on March 29, 1993. Together they had two children.

Laura worked at many local establishments including the diner and bakery(where she met Fran) and the Goldstein and Goldstein law office. Laura went back to school and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. She then earned her Master's Degree in Special Education from SUNY New Paltz. She began her teaching career at the Fallsburg Jr/Sr High School as an English teacher. Laura not only taught, but was a class adviser, the Comet Chronical Newspaper adviser, Ecology Club adviser, mentor for new teachers, as well as being involved in the union and on the school's crisis team. She was a woman always up for a challenge, she also could drive a school bus and earned her real estate license.

She loved to travel, Costa Rica had a special place in her heart. Always up for an adventure she took a trip in a glider plane, rode her scooter often, kayaked and so much more. She liked to look at the deer they fed in the backyard, loved hummingbirds and watching the eagles. She also loved taking walks and chatting with friends and picking blueberries.

Laura's humor and quick wit was loved by all and will be remembered fondly by her friends, family and coworkers.

She is survived by her husband Fran, daughter Stacey Pettway (Wil), son Ryan Jones(Priscilla), grandchildren Charles Samuels, Addison and Landon Jones. She is also survived by her sisters Elizabeth Ryan and Maina Caul.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, brothers Terrance and Ryan Moriarty, grandchildren Andrew Samuels and Arlene Pettway.

Memorial visitation will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 5-7:00pm. A funeral service will be at 6:30pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Laura's name may be made to The Allyson Whitney Foundation (allysonwhitney.org) PO Box 586, Rock Hill, NY 12775.
