Mary Van Tassel

Mary Van Tassel of Mountain Dale, New York, passed away on December 4, 2025, at Garnet Health Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 88.

Mary was born on August 8, 1937, in Suffern, New York, to Levi Pitt and Harriet Babcock.

Mary was a dedicated and compassionate mother and caregiver, who provided care and support to numerous people throughout her life. Mary will be greatly miss by many.

Mary is survived by her sister Joan Fairchild; Her daughters Maryann Van Tassel, Jane Schechner and her husband Steven Schechner, and Joyce Van Tassel-Pitt. Her sons, George Van Tassel, Levi Van Tassel and Richard Van Tassel and his fiancé Marilyn Ford; Son in law, Steven Schechner of Florida; Her grandchildren, Timothy Pitt Jr., Joseph A. Pitt, Megan Van Tassel, Jason Van Tassel, Alex Schechner, Rebecca Schechner, several great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

She is predeceased by her husband Robert Van Tassel, and her sons, Robert H. Van Tassel, Floyd Van Tassel.

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 5 PM to 8 PM at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY 12788. A service facilitated by Pastor Bud LaConey will begin at 6 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's honor can be made out to Mountain Dale Fire & Rescue.
