Merritt "Tommy" Cronk Detzauer Sr., 72, passed away on May 21, 2026. Born on June 26, 1953, Tommy lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, laughter, and love for his family.
Tommy proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Following his service, he spent many years working as an auto mechanic and television repairman. He also ran camps and performed general maintenance work throughout his life. Known for his remarkable ability to repair nearly anything, Tommy was a man who could fix anything, except stupid.
In his spare time, Tommy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to oldies music on the radio. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his children and family. Tommy knew how to make people laugh and how to have a great time with those he loved most.
Tommy was predeceased by Lena "Dolly" Schrader, the mother of his children. He was also predeceased by his beloved children, Christina DeGroat, Russell Detzauer, Ellen Edwards, and Julia Detzauer; his wife Beverly Detzauer; and his siblings, Joyce Detzauer, Julia Hardy, Jane Ellen Detzauer, Arthur Cronk, and Seymour Cronk.
He is survived by his loving children: Edwin Schrader of Swan Lake; Sam Schrader and his wife Bonnie of Fallsburg; Pamela Schrader of Monticello; Elizabeth Cohen and her husband Bob of Pennsylvania; Morris Schrader Jr. and his wife Christine of Liberty; Angela Patton and her husband Steve of Monticello; Jennifer Detzauer and her wife Layla of Binghamton; Merritt "Tommy" Detzauer Jr. and his wife Mariella of Monticello; Joseph Detzauer of Fallsburg; Samantha DeGroat of Liberty; Amanda Detzauer of Binghamton; and David Detzauer of Fallsburg. He is also survived by his first wife, Cindy; 46 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; his brother Bob Bauer; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Tommy will be remembered for his quick wit, hardworking hands, generous spirit, and the deep love he carried for his family. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the countless things he fixed along the way.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Colonial Bryant Funeral Home 29 Pearl Street Livingston Manor, New York 12758.
