Myra
Bennett
d. Oct 2, 2026
Myra Bennett, 67, of Mountaindale, passed away suddenly on October 2, 2026.
Myra had been a resident of Mountaindale since 1977, where she built a life with her husband of 49 years, Gregg "Bugsy" Bennett.
She was the daughter of the late Al and Celia Hirschorn Fristh, born on January 23, 1959 in York, PA.
Above all, Myra was devoted to her family. She was an incredibly loving and supportive mother to her two children and a beloved and attentive grandmother to her five grandchildren. She treasured her role as a grandmother "Gigi" and the time she spent with her family.
Myra was a voracious reader and someone who truly enjoyed life. She loved spending time with her friends, whether over dinner, on a trip, or during a night out. Myra was fun, outgoing, and often the life of the party. She had a natural ability to bring people together and made everyone feel truly welcome. She formed lasting friendships throughout her life and was always willing to extend herself to help the people she cared about.
Myra also had a deep love of gardening, and her Mountaindale home was unmistakably hers, overflowing with the flowers and plants she so lovingly tended. For family and friends, her home became much more than a house. It was a warm and welcoming place where people gathered, felt cared for, and knew they belonged. The beauty she created around her home reflected the same warmth and generosity she shared with everyone who came through its doors.
Myra worked for the Village of Woodridge for 22 years before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Gregg Bennett; her son, Seth Bennett, and daughter-in-law, Jessica Bennett; her daughter, Samantha Jahne, and son-in-law, Daniel Jahne; and her five grandchildren, Levon, Emily, Joseph, Jack, and Frank, as well as countless friends and chosen family.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Myra's memory to the Sullivan County SPCA, PO Box 995, Rock Hill, NY 12775 or https://sullivanspca.org/, or to an organization of your choice.
Myra will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, the friendships she cherished, and the joy and laughter she brought wherever she went. Most of all, she will be remembered for the remarkable way she made people feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.
