With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Nira Gerwer. A devoted matriarch and homemaker departed this life on August 8th 2024 at the remarkable age of 90. She peacefully passed on at the home she shared with her granddaughter Danielle Conley and grandson in-law Brad Hendershot.
Nira's life was a testament to her love, kindness, and generosity. She dedicated herself to her family, creating a warm and welcoming home for all. Her love for animals and her neighbors was evident in everything she did. With a sharp wit and a tongue that could cut through steel, Nira was known for her sassiness and unapologetic stubbornness- traits that served her well throughout her life and earned her a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Britten, Edward Gerwer, David Gerwer and Jean Houghtaling(Jamie). Her grandchildren Brandy, Katie, Lisa, Lori, Michael, Eddie, Jessica, Susan, Robert, Tricia, Philly, Nira, Danielle, Britani, Lea(Nicholas) and Troy. Her great grandchildren Cameron, Stephen, Joe, Katie, Nick, Chris, Aiden, Matt, Mikey, Julianna, Isabella, Jayden, Courtney, Julianne, Jeffrey, Christopher, Myles, Skylar, Amelia, Daniel, Andrew, John, Isabella, Gerard III, Greyson, Bryden, Madilynn, Laela, Liliana, NovaLee and Nöelle. Her great great grandchildren Emma, Lily, Beau and Dawson.
Predeceased by her loving husband Edward L. Gerwer, her daughter Janet Striffler, her daughter in-law Linda Gerwer, her great-granddaughter Sophia Dibble, her siblings and many other loving family members(including angel babies) Nira's legacy is one of love, strength and devotion.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 15th from 2pm-4pm, at Colonial-Ramsay Funeral Home, 275 S. Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754, allowing family and friends to pay their respects and share fond memories.
We will deeply miss Nira's sharp wit, her infectious laugh and her unwavering optimism with her famous last words.... "oh, I'll be alright I'm just tired"
Her memory will be a blessing, inspiring us to live life to the fullest with love, kindness, and a healthy dose of sass.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the local animal shelter, a cause close to Nira's heart or to a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, dear Nira. Your life was a gift, and your memory will be cherished forever.
