Paul "Paulie" Rizzo, beloved friend and unforgettable character, passed away on August 22, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born in Brooklyn on January 17, 1955, Paulie later made his home in New Paltz, an area he came to love deeply. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hiking the beautiful trails of Lake Minnewaska.

Paulie was a carpenter by trade and took pride in his work. He was also a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. But perhaps what people will remember most about Paulie was his ability to make those around him laugh. He loved telling jokes and stories, and he always seemed to draw a crowd wherever he went. He enjoyed the occasional pleasant drink and the good company that came with it. People were naturally drawn to his lively personality, his sense of humor, and his ability to make any gathering more memorable. Those close to him knew, "Every family needs a Paulie"-a sentiment first expressed by the daughter of one of his closest friends, and one that came to perfectly capture the special place he held in the lives of those who knew him.

Paulie was truly one of a kind-a unique man with a wonderful character and a personality that could never be replaced. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, and his stories, laughter, and spirit will remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared life with him.

Paulie is survived by his brothers, Michael Rizzo, James Rizzo, and David Rizzo; as well as his extended chosen family, Myra and Bugsy Bennett, Mary and Scottie Sherman, and Debra Castillo.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788.

Paulie lived life in his own unforgettable way, and he will be remembered with love, laughter, and fondness.
