Richard C Welch, Livingston Manor peacefully passed away after a long illness at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut with his devoted wife Lorriane and Sister-in-law Arlene by his side. He was 80.
He was the son of the late Avery “Toot” Welch and Florence Helms, born on August 21,1944 at home in Livingston Manor, NY.
Rich worked at the Sullivan County Infirmary as security then later became an officer at Sullivan Sheriff’s office for the Social Services complex for many years. At the age of 25 he became the youngest town justice in the state of New York and in addition to serving as constable he also sat on the town board for the town of Rockland. He was an all-star athlete. He excelled in baseball, basketball, football, and track. He was an avid sports fan some of his favorite teams were the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and generally being outdoors. In his free time, he could often be found in the garden or refinishing old furniture or going antiquing with his wife. Rich was often on the move making frequent stops to his favorite coffee shop with a big smile on his face, where he would often socialize with friends and tell jokes, with that big smile on his face for everyone. He continued to be this way even when he was very sick. He was loved by all his hospital staff. He never lost his sense of humor or his big smile up until the very end.
He leaves behind his wife Lorriane of 45 years. He married Lorriane on September 2, 1979, His daughter Dawn McCraith (Patrick), grandchildren Michael and John and his sisters-in-laws Arlene Goldberg, Shirley VanHorn (Bill), and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his sister Florence, brothers John, William, Leonard and Alfred.
A visitation will be held from 11am to 12pm on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Colonial -Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street Livingston Manor, NY 12758. A funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 12pm. Burial will follow at the Lew Beach Cemetery. Masks are suggested.
