Ronald Stephen Kates passed away tragically after being struck by an automobile on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He was 81 years old. Ronald was born in Brooklyn on April 11, 1945.

He leaves behind Renee Okun, his loving wife of 55 years, his son, Harris (Robin) and grandson Dylan, his sister Dr. Carolann Kates Flicker and his three nieces of California, and his cousin Charles Slutsky.

Ronnie attended Fallsburg Central School and schools in Greenwich, Connecticut and Milton, Massachusetts. After his schooling, he returned to his hometown of Woodridge. He spent his working- life contributing to the mystique of the Borscht Belt. He was a member of the Woodridge Fire Company, a Trustee of the Village of Woodridge, the Lions Club, the Wawarsing Rod & Gun Club, the Ulster Heights Rod & Club and the NRA.

Ronnie will be remembered for his years of generous service and dedication to his hometown, Woodridge. He was a gentle, sweet and kind-hearted man who shared his love of cars, guns, dogs and hunting with everyone. His daily walks were legendary: his spirit lingers on every single street in Woodridge and with every person he greeted and befriended.

A funeral service was held at Ezrath Israel Cemetery in Ellenville, on Friday, August 28. Donations in Ronnie's memory may be sent to the Woodridge Fire Company, PO Box 683, Woodridge, NY 12789.
