Shirley Schwartz, a longtime resident of Livingston Manor, passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 19th, at the age of 98. Born on May 3, 1928, in Willowemoc, Shirley was the daughter of Elma and Audrey Conklin. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Prudence Wehner and Elizabeth Possemato.

Shirley married Martin Schwartz in 1950. Martin predeceased her, passing away in 2016. Shirley is survived by her three children, Neil Schwartz (wife Lea) of St. Paul, Minnesota; Lori Pittaway (husband Steve) of Cherry Log, Georgia; and Susan Murphy of Hillburn, New York. She is also survived by five grandchildren - Evan Schwartz of St. Paul, Minnesota; Daniel Schwartz of Carlsbad, California; Abbey Murphy of Brooklyn, New York; Briony Pittaway of Paris, France; and Beth Pittaway of Edinburgh, Scotland - and one great-grandson, Henry, of St. Paul, Minnesota.

After raising her three children, Shirley enjoyed a 25-year career in banking, working as a well-known and well-loved teller at the local bank in Livingston Manor, where she amused customers with a good story and a joke or two.

Shirley was an active member of Agudas Achim Synagogue and previously served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Hadassah. She loved golf and was a member, with her husband Martin, of the Sullivan County Golf Club. She also served on the board of the Frank A. and Lulu Rose Diana Fredenburg Foundation, a charitable foundation providing scholarships to students in Livingston Manor, and was a longtime supporter of the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Livingston Manor Volunteer Fire Department.

Shirley loved to cook and garden and always helped harvest tomatoes for her homemade tomato sauce. She was fond of feeding the birds in her backyard and watching them from her window. She loved receiving cards of all kinds and was known for remembering her friends' birthdays year after year.

Visitation will be at Colonial Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 1:00-2:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00pm. She will be interred at Agudas Achim Cemetery in Livingston Manor.
