Shona Lee LaPolt, 54, passed away at Garnet Health Medical Center on January 29, 2025. She was born on November 5, 1970, in Ellenville, NY. Shona was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, and a friend to many.
Shona was known for her warm and welcoming nature, always putting others before herself. She could brighten any room with her smile and was the kind of person who always wore a "happy face" even during difficult times. Shona had a special gift for making people feel at ease, whether it was through a chat on the phone or through the simple joy of connecting with friends on Facebook.
A lover of animals, Shona took great joy in caring for her six cats, dog, and rabbit. She also had a passion for the beach, often seen wiggling her toes in the sand as she took in the calming sounds of the waves. Her favorite color was purple, and she would often share her love for creativity through crafts, particularly ceramic painting and flower-making. She also enjoyed spending time watching birds, finding peace and joy in observing the wildlife around her.
Shona was a huge fan of soap operas, enjoying The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. She loved traveling with her family, taking cruises, and exploring different parts of the country. She had a special place in her heart for car racing and was proud to serve as a trophy girl at the Accord Speedway in the 1980s. She was also a dedicated supporter of her husband, Richard "Skip" LaPolt, and her father, Steven Conklin, at the racetrack, where she kept them grounded with her thoughtful perspective and voice of reason.
Above all, Shona's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard "Skip" LaPolt; daughters, Courtney and Cassandra "Cassie"; her parents, Steven and Donna Conklin; her aunt Carolyn Hill; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1st, from 12 to 2 pm at White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church, Route 17B, White Lake, NY 12786. A funeral service will immediately follow at the church, with Reverend David Coon officiating.
