With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen Janove, lovingly known as “Mr. Janove” to many, on Tuesday, February 18, 2024. While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life he lived.
Stephen was a devoted husband, a loving father, stepfather, and grandfather, a cherished brother, a dedicated teacher and mentor, and a true friend to many. He was the best G-Diddy and G-Grandpa, a thoughtful uncle, a friendly neighbor, and a fierce advocate for those around him. His passion for education and unwavering commitment to others touched countless lives. He was also a lifelong, and often "haunted," devoted Mets and Jets fan, cheering for his teams with unwavering loyalty.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Lopez-Janove, his son, Josh Janove, his daughter, Elizabeth Janove, and his daughter-in-law, Heather Janove. He was a devoted stepfather to Jocelyn, Christine, Daniel, Marisa, and Adam.
He was a proud grandfather to Jayde, Hunter, Everly, Maya, and Julian, who brought endless joy to his life.
He is also survived by his brothers, Alix, Michael, and David Janove, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, colleagues, and former students. His legacy of love, humor, and wisdom will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Gathering of Love & Remembrance will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY. Friends, family, colleagues, students, and all who were touched by Stephen’s kindness are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Stephen do so by sharing a memory, a story, or a moment that captures his spirit during the gathering - ensuring his spirit lives on through the voices of those who knew and loved him. Additionally, a scholarship fund has been established in his name, allowing his passion for education and mentorship to continue making an impact for years to come. Contributions to this fund are a meaningful way to carry forward his legacy and support future generations.
