Steven Christy

Steven "Steve" Christy, 72, of Monticello passed away on November 30, 2025. He was born on May 25, 1953 in New York City and relocated to the area from Staten Island in 1972. He was struck by a car in Monticello on November 25, 2025, and died five days later. The car was driven by an off-duty Monticello Village police sergeant; as a result, his death is being investigated by the New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation.

Steve was known for his spirit and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. He loved taking walks, collecting old car models, creating art, enjoying winter weather, going to church, and going out to eat. He proudly participated in the Special Olympics and had a special gift for making friends wherever he went.

Predeceased by his good friends Dick and Sarah Read, Steve is survived by Dick's daughters, Robin and Lori Read, along with his countless friends. Steve will be remembered for his warmth, enthusiasm, and the joy he brought to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
