Terence McCann

June 3, 1986 — September 15, 2025

Terence 'Terry' McCann passed away suddenly on September 15, 2025. Terence was born on June 3, 1986 at Community General Hospital in Harris, New York. He grew up in Livingston Manor and was the fourth of five children born to the late Terence McCann and Kathleen (née Duggan) McCann-Smith.

Terence was a cub scout and boy scout in Livingston Manor. He also enjoyed all sports, but was especially passionate about fishing, alpine skiing and ice hockey. He was a superior all-star athlete; he played Modified, JV and Varsity basketball and football while attending Livingston Manor Central School, as well as Livingston Manor Little League baseball.

Terence enlisted in the United States Navy on a SEAL contract in August of 2010. After basic training he then completed BUD/S and was awarded his SEAL Trident on June 8, 2012 in Coronado, CA. After completing Seal Qualification Training he was assigned to Seal Team 2 in Virginia Beach, VA where he served until 2018. After multiple deployments to Uganda and Somalia he was invited to screen for the exceptionally difficult green team pipeline. The completion of that training made him a Tier 1 qualified operator who may have served, if called, at the highly coveted SEAL Team 6. He successfully completed his career at Advanced Training Command as a comms specialist, training other SEALs and SEAL support members on state of the art communications equipment to be used in the field.

He officially left the SEAL Teams in February, 2021, leaving behind an impressive career marked by fierce talent, true bravery, and a relentless ability to never give up on the task at hand.

Terence is survived by his wife, Abigail McGrane McCann, who he married in a beautiful and intimate ceremony on HMS Drake, HM Naval Base Devonport in Plymouth, England on April 3 2022; his parents Kathleen and Randy Smith; siblings, Kevin, Bridget (Joshua), Kaitlin, Ethan, Christopher (Rachel Hotchkin) Smith, Lisa (Anthony Spagna) Hintze; nephew, Kaleb Maldonado; niece Madison Hintze; grandmothers, Mary McCann McGerty, Margaret (Rita) Duggan, (both living in Ireland); his father and mother in law, Danny and Carole McGrane, of Torpoint, England; brother-in-law, Eddie (Georgie); and nieces Margaux and Marina, uncles, aunts, many cousins and friends. He is also survived by his US Navy band of brothers, especially Brian Ferguson and Chris Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Terence's name to Sullivan County Veterans Coalition, PO Box 1527, Monticello, NY 12701 or NAMI Sullivan County, 20 Crystal St., Monticello, NY 12701.
