Tomas Santiago

December 5, 1956 — April 22, 2025

Tomas Santiago, 68, of New York, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Born on December 5, 1956, in the Dominican Republic, Tomas lived a life defined by service, creativity, and deep devotion to his loved ones.

A proud veteran, Tomas served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, he built a successful career in computer operations, where his sharp mind and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Tomas was a man of many passions. He participated in biking marathons, found joy in strumming his guitar, practiced martial arts with discipline, and expressed his artistic soul through painting and drawing. His love for nature was reflected in his stunning photography, and he was never happier than when he was in the kitchen, creating meals that brought people together.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Valerie Santiago; his children, Christopher Santiago and Katerina Santiago; and his sister Reyna Persaud and her husband Tony. Tomas also leaves behind his cherished pets: dogs Stella and Sophie, cats Ava and Gabe, and rabbit Bailey, all of whom brought him daily joy and companionship.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Tomas will be laid to rest with full military honors at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
