It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Viola Louise Cline Jordan, who died on February 22, 2025, at Achieve Nursing Home in Liberty, NY. She was 81 years old.
Viola was born on June 28, 1943, in Brunswick, GA, to the late Eliza Cline Smith and John T. Cline Sr. She was a dedicated and vibrant member of her community, giving her time and energy to many organizations throughout her life. Viola was a past member of the Fallsburg Lions Club, the Sullivan County Republican Party Committee, a Sullivan County Election Inspector, and the Heroines of Jericho, Sheba Court No. 1 in Newburgh, NY. She also served as a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of South Fallsburg, NY, where she participated in the choir and usher board. Viola’s faith was central to her life, and she was a current member of Hurleyville United Methodist Church, where she served as a Lay Servant, as well as a member of the Bible Study at White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
Viola’s community involvement also extended to the Starlight Chapter #74 Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star in South Fallsburg, where she was a past matron.
A graduate of Monticello High School in 1961, Viola went on to study Secretarial Science at Sullivan County Community College. She worked as a legal secretary for Harold Sussman, Esq., in Liberty, NY, and later as a secretary for the CACHE office in Liberty. Viola also worked in several positions at Catskill Regional Medical Center for an impressive 39 years.
In her spare time, Viola enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including gardening, taking vacations to Las Vegas, collecting nutcrackers, and decorating for Christmas. She loved cooking seafood dishes, fishing, crabbing, and reading. A fan of country and gospel music, she also enjoyed shopping, staying in touch with family and friends through calls and letters, and watching sci-fi movies.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Rev. Joycalyn Jordan, her grandchild, Averey Nakama (also known as Jasmine Taylor Boswell), her siblings Willie J. Cline and Ronald Smith, as well as her nieces Louise Smith and Teretha Green.
She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Rev. John T. Cline Jr., Frederick K. Smith, and Betty Jean Smith, and her beloved husband, George Jordan.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne, NY 12788. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, burial will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery. A memorial picnic will be held later in the spring to celebrate her life.
The family wishes to thank the clergy, lay ministers and members of the Western Sullivan Charge/Sullivan Cooperative Parish of the United Methodist Church, and Catskill-Hudson District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Karen A. Monk, for their countless thoughts and prayers. And in addition to gratitude to the staff at Achieve Nursing Home & Rehab, staff at Garnet Health Catskill for the extra care the provided to Viola during her illness.
