Wendell Monroe Downs Jr., 82, of Galway, NY passed away on Monday Dec. 10, 2012 at his daughter's home in Mongaup Valley, NY.
The son of the late Wendell Monroe Downs Sr. and Myrtle Haberman Downs, he was born on Oct. 6, 1930 in Riverhead, NY.
He was a retired Electrical Engineer for IBM in Kingston, NY and was the Assessor for the Town of Providence for over 14 years. He was also a Korean Conflict Army Veteran.
Survivors include his girlfriend, Cheryl Lee of Galway, NY; his son, Wendell G. Downs of Watervliet, NY; his daughters, Grace S. Ross and her husband Gerald of Mongaup Valley, NY and Cynthia A. Clester of Amsterdam, NY; sisters, Marilyn Aldrich of East Quogue, NY and Susan White of Abuebogue, NY; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Downs, in July 2009.
A Celebration of Wendell's Life will be held on Thursday Dec. 13, 2012 between the hours of 3 and 5 pm at the home of Cheryl Lee, 206 Sayville Rd., Galway, NY 12074.
